Biographical Note

John Robert Moore was Professor of English at Indiana University. He specialized in scholarship on Daniel Defoe, in addition to other scholarly interests. One of his major works was “A Checklist of the Writings of Daniel Defoe,” first published in 1960. His work on Defoe proved controversial, attributing various items not in Defoe's name, most importantly, "A General History of the Pyrates," to the author.
