Abstract
The Robert Zarbock collection of opera photographs consists of letters, photographs, newspaper clippings, and lithographs related to performers who were active on the Parisian opera circuit in the mid- to late-19th century.
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection contains letters, photos, newspaper clippings, and lithographs representing 47 mid- to late-19th century opera performers. The bulk of the collection is made up of letters signed by the performers. The newspaper clippings are largely reviews, and many of the photographs are from the Celebrites Contemporaines series of collector's cards issued by Parisian supermarket chain Felix Potin around the turn of the century.
Collection Historical Note
Robert Zarbock attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he participated in numerous musical and fine arts programs. He produced reissued opera recordings for RCA Records's Victor label in the 1960s.
