Thomas Lamplugh (1615-1691) was a native of Yorkshire, England, and received degrees from Queen's College, Oxford, in 1639 (BA) and 1642 (MA). He entered the ministry of the Church of England in 1657 and gradually rose through the ranks of the Church, becoming Bishop of Exeter in 1676 and Archbishop of York in 1688.
