John Pershing and David Kinley | University of Illinois Archives
Featured are University President David Kinley (right) (1920-1930) and United States Five-Star General and Army Chief of Staff John Pershing (left) as they stand outside Kinley's home. Pershing was welcomed to the campus on February 13th, 1922, as part of his C.O.S tour around the United States. The Daily Illini reports that Pershing awarded 15 R.O.T.C. members medals for their performance with the, aptly, named Pershing Rifles.
Kinley's home, 1203 W Nevada Street is currently owned by the University of Illinois and houses the La Casa Cultural Center on campus.
