Scope and Contents:
This collection mainly contains materials related to Samuel Love's time as a student at the Illinois Industrial University, 1872-74. Love's diary describes course work, instructors, social events, visits home, and Sunday lectures by John Milton Gregory, first University Regent. The collection also includes an itemized account book, compositions, veterinary medical notes, and a certificate of entrance into the University. There is also a land warrant issued to Samuel Love, Sr., in 1850, and a 1902 historical sketch of Philo, Ill., by John Love.
Clifford Love of Philo, Ill., nephew of John Love, loaned the collection to the Illinois Historical Survey for photocopying in 1974.
