This collection contains a scrapbook with black-and-white photographs and ephemera compiled by Evelene Beardslee during her time at Monticello Seminary in the early 1930s.
Evelene Elizabeth Beardslee (1914-2009), from Michigan, attended Monticello Seminary in Godfrey, Illinois from around 1931 to 1933. Around 1934, Evelene Beardslee enrolled at Michigan State College. She married John Malcolm prior to 1940 and the couple had two children together.
Monticello Seminary, also known as Monticello Female Seminary, was established by Captain Benjamin Godfrey in 1835. The school became known as Monticello College in 1935 and closed its doors in 1971.
This collection consists of one scrapbook kept by Evelene Beardslee. The bulk of the scrapbook contains black-and-white photographs and event programs from her time at Monticello Seminary in Godrey, Illinois from around 1931 to 1933. The images show Beardslee and her friends in school uniforms, around campus, and at formal social events. There are also several items from after Beardslee left the school to attend Michigan State College, starting around 1934. These items, dating from around 1934 to 1938, consist of event programs from Michigan State College and the University of Michigan, restaurant menus, and other ephemera.
