Collection Description

Scope and Contents:

This collection contains a photocopy of an extract from a minute book of the Pacific Railroad of Missouri's Board of Directors. The extract concerns a petition from members of the Board who served as lobbyists for the railroad during the Civil War. In their request for a claim adjustment, they explain their services in securing payment from the Federal Government for military use of the Pacific Railroad and in obtaining a bill from the state legislature in March 1868 that enabled the business to restructure its organization, thereby preventing a take-over by eastern capitalists.

Acquisition Source: The Archives of the Missouri Pacific Lines, Missouri Pacific Building, St. Louis, photocopied this portion of the railroad's minute book for the Illinois Historical Survey in 1973.
