Scope and Contents:
Joseph Litzelmann of Newton, Ill., operated a boarding house called the American House. This collection contains letters, business papers and other documents pertaining to Joseph Litzelmann and his family. These include a bank book, receipts, an election notice, income tax forms, and an affidavit concerning an injury Litzelmann suffered during the Civil War. The collection also contains newspaper clippings, recipes, postcards, photographs, Charlene Litzelmann's report card, and history notebooks belonging to Claire and Maurice Litzelmann. Other items apparently belonged to Bessie Finn (Mrs. J. C.) Huddleston of Hidalgo, Ill. The collection was acquired by the Library in 1972.
