Scope and Contents:
This collection contains one volume entitled Illinois' State Press War List (1941-1946). The volume is a bound set of reports on the members of the Illinois press who served in the United States armed forces or as correspondents on war assignments during World War II.
In 1946, Illinois newspapers and magazines were surveyed to collect information on "staff members and employes [sic] in military and naval service" during World War II. This included those serving as "regularly accredited war correspondents." The volume contains 120 responses to the survey. Reports include dates of those killed in action, obituaries, and other newspaper clippings about the journalists. The reports are divided into the Gold Star List and the Service Star List, although a note included in the beginning of the volume indicates that the lists are incomplete. The volume was voted into the Editors Hall of Fame sponsored by the Illinois Press Association.
The volume was transferred from the University Library stacks to the Illinois Historical Survey Library in June of 1974.
