Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of records from the Sixth Illinois Constitutional Convention in 1969-1970, including verbatim transcriptions of meeting minutes, photocopies of member proposals, weekly summaries, records from individual committees, copies of the convention journal and other materials relating to the Convention.
The Sixth Illinois Constitutional Convention met from December 8, 1969 to September 3, 1970. In this time a total of 117 sessions were held. 116 delegates were chosen from the 58 state senatorial districts of Illinois. The new constitution, drafted by the convention, was adopted on December 15, 1970.
This collection is organized into seven series: Member Proposals, Committee Records, Reports, Amendments, Journals, Mixed Materials, and Minutes. The transcriptions of verbatim minutes are contained in bound volumes. Many of the materials in this collection as well as other materials from the 1970 Illinois Constitutional Convention are also available online through the Illinois Digital Archives.
This collection was transferred from the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois to the Library in 1975.
