This collection consists of a letter from F. Howe, a Chicago business owner, to E. Townsend, an associate in Andover, Illinois.
F. Howe was a merchant and business owner in Chicago, Illinois during the 19th century. E. Townsend was a lawyer in Andover, a town in Henry County in northwestern Illinois.
The collection consists of a letter written by F. Howe on June 9, 1847, to an associate, E. Townsend. Howe wrote about the purchase, sale, and delivery of various goods for his business, such as fish, salt, clothing, and crockery. He also discussed political matters, specifically Zachary Taylor's candidacy for the United States presidency and his desire to see the Democratic Party out of office, despite doubts that Whig Party would be an improvement. The collection includes a partial transcription of the letter.
