This collection is comprised of a letter written by Mary Jane Foster to her father in 1869 describing life in Chicago and Evanston, Illinois.
Mary Jane Foster was originally from the eastern United States and lived in Chicago and Evanston, Illinois (12 miles north of Chicago) during the 19th century. Her husband, George, owned a business in Chicago.
The collection consists of an August 16, 1869 letter from Mary Jane Foster to her father, Octavio, who lived in the eastern United States. The letter discusses several topics including Mary Jane's move from Chicago to Evanston, Illinois due to high rent prices; transportation between Evanston and Chicago; and her purchase of a plot of land with the intention to build a house.
