Scope and Contents:
This collection contains a letter written in 1850 by Stephen Dennis, a farmer in Greenville, Bond County, Illinois, to his grandfather in Virginia. In the letter Stephen describes the challenges the family faced over the past three crop seasons. He writes about the impact weather has had on their crops, as well as the difficulties they have experienced transitioning from farming corn to farming wheat.
The Library purchased this letter in the spring of 2016. It was acquired with printed ephemera purchased for the Clarendon Van Norman Jr. Collection of Lincoln and Illinois Ephemera (MS 852).
