Scope and Contents:
This collection contains ephemera and memorabilia related to the foundation, dedication, and opening of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) in Springfield, Illinois.
The ALPLM began with the construction of the library building in 2001. The Presidential Library incorporated the materials of the Illinois State Historical Library, and it included a substantial collection of documents and artifacts related to Abraham Lincoln.
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum chronicles the life of Abraham Lincoln through two exhibits, two theatrical productions, and artifact galleries. Construction on the museum began in 2002, and it opened in 2005. To commemorate the opening of the ALPLM, the institution held dedication ceremonies and a conference about Abraham Lincoln.
Items within the collection include: press releases from the period of construction of the institution, newspaper and magazine articles related to the library and museum, admission tickets, dedication tickets and programs, and a commemorative ribbon and pin from the opening of the museum.
Materials in the collection were donated by Cathy Mancuso and Mark Johnson in 2002 and 2005 and by library staff in 2005.
