Scope and Contents:
This collection contains records for the Cahokia Mounds Museum Society. Records include meeting minutes, advertisements, event fliers, newspaper clippings, newsletters in relation to the Cahokia Mounds Museum Society and other materials.
According to their website in 2016, the Society was founded in 1976 to "promote both the educational and scientific aspects of the Cahokia Mounds State Historical Site." The Cahokia Mounds Historical Site is a prehistoric native civilization within a 2,200-acre tract known today as Cahokia.
The bulk of the collection consists of meeting minutes, which are organized chronologically by year (1976-1996). Each folder contains approximately a year or more of meeting minutes from the Society. Discussions outlined by the minutes include yearly budgets, donations, improvement plans for the museum, and future events to hold at the site. Interspersed with the minutes are other administrative materials, advertisements and fliers for events held by the Society, newsletters to volunteers and donors, and newspaper clippings.
