Waldo G. Leland, historian and editor, made many contributions to both the historical and archival professions. Of the many works which he wrote, edited, or compiled, his complete Guide to the Materials for American History in the Libraries and Archives of Paris has proved a very useful tool for historians of French Colonial America. This collection contains materials photocopied by Leland which were to comprise Volumes III and IV of his Guide. The information was gathered between 1905 and 1942, and includes the Archives of the Ministeres de la Guerre, Comite Technique de l'Artillerie, Comite Technique du Genie, Service Hydrographique, Ministere de la Marine, the Actes du Pouvoir Souverain, and the Archives Nationales, Section Moderne.
The Library of Congress copied these items for the Illinois Historical Survey in 1974.
