Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of films related to Illinois history, with particular emphasis on Abraham Lincoln, Carl Sandburg, and Chicago.
The collection contains films primarily related to Illinois and Abraham Lincoln. In addition to Lincoln, Carl Sandburg, and Chicago, the films explore topics such as French exploration in Illinois Territory, immigration, labor history, and Midwestern literature. Short descriptions of each film can be found in the University of Illinois Film Center General Catalog, which is stored with the collection. The finding aid description for the Film Center Collection includes the film name, production company, accession number (as assigned in the University of Illinois Film Center General Catalog), and production year.
The films in this collection are included in the 1985 University of Illinois Film Center General Catalog, which states that "films in this catalog are protected under Title 17, U.S. copyright code, and are for optical projection only. They may not be duplicated, reproduced, televised, or transmitted in whole or in part without specific permission from the copyright holder." Individual assessment of the current copyright status of these films has not been conducted.
The Illinois Historical Survey, predecessor to the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections, acquired the films in 1993 as a result of the closing of the University of Illinois Film Center.
