Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of records from the Illinois Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Records include reports, correspondence, photographs, and other materials.
During the 1920s and 1930s, the Illinois Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution initiated a project to publish a guide to historic sites around Illinois. The project, however, was eventually abandoned.
The bulk of the collection consists of Chapter reports from Illinois counties documenting historic sites in each county. The collection also includes correspondence between the Chairman of the Preservation of Historic Spots Committee and the Vice Chairman of the Illinois Chapter regarding historic sites. Also included is a list that documents the locations of the graves of Revolutionary War soldiers in Illinois.
After the project ended, the materials were donated to the Library by the State Board of the DAR and were later transferred to the Illinois Historical Survey, the predecessor of the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections unit, in 1959.
