Scope and Contents: This collection includes various documents of the Confederate States of America. Among the items in the collection are requisitions, bids, receipts, and War Department warrants 1861-65; certificates for an election in May 1861 of a commissioner of public works in four Virginia counties; guard reports in Jan. 1864 from Confederate military prisons; letters to Gov. William Smith of Virginia in 1864 regarding exemptions from military service; and letters exchanged between Confederate State Depositories in Arkansas, Georgia, and Louisiana, and E. C. Elmore, Treasurer of the Confederate States, regarding deposits and other business, 1863-65.
