Curtis, Lathrop W. Letter, 1835 | Illinois History and Lincoln Collections

This collection contains one letter from Reverend Lathrop Willis Curtis addressed to his brother, Reverend Otis Freeman Curtis.

Rev. Curtis was born January 9, 1800 in Hanover, New Hampshire. He moved to Fulton County, Illinois in 1832. Here he continued his practice as a physician, but eventually turned to farming due to poor health. Rev. Curtis died on March 5, 1879.

In his letter to his brother, Rev. Curtis gives an account of the devastation caused by a tornado which had struck Canton, Illinois on June 18, 1835. The letter is dated July 12 and July 18.

The letter was purchased by the Library in 2010.
