Scope and Contents:
The union lockout at the A. E. Staley corn-processing plant in Decatur, Illinois in 1993-1995 attracted support for the workers and their families from across the country. Staley workers solidarity committees were formed in many cities, and unions and individuals organized to provide financial assistance to the families in need through the union's "adopt-a-family" program. Professor Steve Rosswurm of Lake Forest College was among those extending support.
This collection contains correspondence and photographs from the family that Rosswurm "adopted" during the lockout, newsletters and other mailings from the Chicago-area Staley Workers Solidarity Committee, issues of News from the War Zone: Staley Workers' Solidarity Report, and contribution letters and mailings from UPIU [United Paperworkers International Union] Local 7837.
Rosswurm donated the collection to the Library in 2015.
