Scope and Contents:
This collection contains an original letter dated September 20 and October 10, 1847, and its transcription.
The letter mentions the dissolution of Philadelphia Industrial Association, a Fouriertist community near South Bend, Indiana, which had been incorporated in 1845. The letter was written in different hands, mostly by A. E. Winter, to his sister, Sarah Winter, of Belchertown, Massachusetts. Winter also reports the debilitating sicknesses of himself and others in the family.
The letter was given to the Illinois Historical Survey, predecessor of the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections, by Arthur E. Bestor, Jr. sometime after 1976.
