Scope and Contents: Elijah Stannard used this 182-page ledger and day book to record business transactions in his blacksmith and general merchandise shop in Tennessee. He dealt mainly in hardware, dry goods, and notions. He also sold groceries and tobacco. In addition, he apparently bought cotton and resold it, acting as a middle man.
