Scope and Contents:
The Sodus Bay Phalanx, a communitarian experiment based upon Fourierist principles, was organized in Rochester, N.Y., and occupied a domain on nearby Sodus Bay. This collection contains microfilm copies of records of this phalanx, including the constitution, by-laws, and signatures of the members; a volume of minutes from Feb. 3 to Nov. 25, 1844; a volume of data on individual members including occupation, number in the family, and amount of subscription to stock; two 1844 account books; one volume of stock certificates; a printed constitution; and various loose receipts and agreements. The records were microfilmed in their entirety from the originals in the Rochester Historical Society.
