Scope and Contents:
This collection includes drafts of miscellaneous resolutions and letters written in St. Clair County, Ill. The documents are political in nature, and their dates have been approximated.
1. Draft of resolutions for the delegates to the Democratic convention in Springfield, including those on nominations for governor and the benefits of what would become the Illinois and Michigan Canal (1841)
2. Letter to Thomas Ford, favoring Sidney Breese for Governor, signed at Carlyle, Ill., by J. D. Woods, John Scott, John Crain, John White, William Martin, Henry Wilton, Gustavus Koerner, Ferris Forman, and Elias Dennis (June 4, 1842).
3. Draft of a statement, headed "Mr. Calhoun," about John C. Calhoun declining to be considered by the Baltimore convention (1843).
4. Draft of a letter, headed "4th Reply to Brutus," by a member of the Illinois Constitutional Convention of 1847-48, opposing the adoption of the new constitution (1848).
5. Draft of resolutions against the free banking system (1849).
6. Draft of a letter on behalf of the candidacy of James Shields for the U.S. Senate (1849).
7. Draft of an statement of a meeting in Belleville upon the death of former Gov. Thomas Carlin (after Feb. 14, 1852).
8. Draft of a resolution of a meeting in support of Hungarian independence (1852).

The collection once included six broadsides, most of which appealed for the vote of German-American residents of St. Clair County in the elections of 1838-1843. Those items are now part of the unit's Broadsides and Printed Ephemera Collection.
