This collection contains a handwritten letter from I. D. Reynard of Fairfield, Illinois, to the Reverend George J. Donmyer of Buena Vista, Illinois, dated December 18, 1852.
There is no information available about the author, I. D. Reynard. Rev. George J. Donmyer was born in 1814 in Centre County, Pennsylvania. In 1850, he was sent west to Stephenson County, Illinois, by the Lutheran Church to become a missionary. During his time in Stephenson County, Donmyer preached various sermons and organized a Sabbath school.
This collection contains a letter, written on December 18, 1852, and addressed to Rev. George J. Donmyer, from I. D. Reynard. In the letter, Reynard discussed the passing of S. S. Miles, a bookseller. Before his passing, Miles asked Reynard to handle his business affairs. In this letter, Reynard discussed closing the business affairs of Miles, and asked Donmyer to write to him immediately and to send money to Hillsboro, Illinois, in exchange for Miles’s books.
The letter was acquired by the Illinois Historical Survey, predecessor of the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections, prior to 1967.
