Scope and Contents:
These three record books concern the farm business of the Piatt family, in and around Monticello, Piatt County, Ill. The first volume, 1879-1906, belonged to C. W. Piatt, and contains entries for payments to hired workers, bills, and the purchase of household goods. The first volume also contains a letter, Mar. 13, 1901, connecting C. W. Piatt and Abner Piatt & Co., livestock commission merchants, Union Stock Yard, Chicago. The second volume, 1894-98, belonged to Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Piatt, and lists prices for the sale of cattle and sheep, the purchase and sale of corn, and payments on loans and dry goods. The third volume, 1909-13, records the dealings of Piatt and Ridgely, a company which imported and sold draft horses, mostly Percheron mares and stallions.
