Scope and Contents:
This collection includes a range of historical studies, most of which were conducted by Karen Lang Kummer and Alice Edwards Novak with the assistance of Historic Preservation Consultants from the URBANA Group and ArchiSearch. These reports include descriptions of the survey, copies of architectural drawings, maps, and photographs. Most of the reports are nominations, in draft form, for the National Register of Historic Places.
At the time these studies were conducted, Karen Lang Kummer held a leadership role at the Preservation and Conservation Association of Champaign County (PACA), and Alice Edwards Novak worked as a preservation consultant with the URBANA Group and taught historic preservation courses at the University of Illinois. Novak worked closely with Lachlin F. Blair, a professor of urban planning at the University of Illinois and the principal of the URBANA Group. (For documentation of Blair’s many projects, see his papers in the University Archives, 12/8/25.)
This collection also includes a number of studies for the Illinois Historic American Building Survey that document University of Illinois buildings, especially on the South Farms.
Karen Kummer gave the collection to the Library in 2011, and Alice Novak assisted in describing it.
