Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of transcripts of correspondence and other documents found in various Spanish and Latin American Archives and Depositories. The bulk of the collection was created under the leadership of Charles H. Cunningham in the early twentieth century for the Illinois Historical Survey and other libraries. The transcripts are arranged chronologically, not by depository or subject. The materials selected for transcription focus mostly on Louisiana and the Mississippi River Valley from the 17th to early 19th centuries.

The contents of this collection were described as a whole in greater detail in the Manuscripts Guide to Collections at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1976). The relevant pages are attached here in PDF format for download.
