Scope and Contents: Cutting Marsh (1800-73) recorded his experiences during an expedition to the Rock Island and Des Moines areas between June and October, 1834. This "Diary of a Trip to Visit the Sauk and Fox Indians," the original of which is in the Wisconsin Historical Society, relates Cutting's experiences within the villages. He noted a wedding ceremony, divorce rules, various dances, and other tribal customs.
