Scope and Contents:
This collection contains extracts from writings which described waterways in Illinois, 1673-1850.
Using Solon Justus Buck, Travel and Description, 1765-1865... (1914), and Robert R. Hubach, Early Midwestern Travel Narrative...1634-1850 (1961), Thomas P. Schlunz, a research assistant in the University of Illinois Department of History, transcribed or photocopied these extracts which were then incorporated into An Annotated Bibliography of Observations on Illinois Water Resources, 1673-1850 (University of Illinois Water Resources Center, 1967). Schlunz's project, for which Robert M. Sutton and George W. White were the principal investigators, was funded by the University of Illinois Water Resources Center.
