Scope and Contents:
The Illinois War Council was organized in April 1941 to coordinate state war activities through a central organization and advisory groups. This collection contains various records of the council, including correspondence, meeting minutes, membership lists, and reports. The reports make up the bulk of the collection and are on topics such as "Activities of Local Councils of Defense," "Activities of the State Council of Defense," "Activities of the Division of War Records and Research," and "Activities of the Illinois War Council." Also included are outlines and correspondence from 1943 regarding proposals for a history of Illinois in World War II.
