Scope and Contents:
Hugh Henderson, who settled in Joliet in 1836, was a member of the Illinois Constitutional Convention of 1847 and served as a circuit judge of the 11th Circuit of Illinois, 1849-54. The collection contains a petition for his appointment signed by nine lawyers of the area, his commission, and various court papers. It also includes correspondence, photographs, and deeds for land purchased by Henderson in Will and LaSalle counties.
Mary Meyer of Columbia, S.C., great-granddaughter of Henderson, donated the collection to the Library in 1980 and 1984.
