Scope and Contents:
Edward P. Lander, born in England in 1843, enlisted in 1861 at Belvidere, Ill. as a bugler in Co. I, 9th Ill. Vol. Cav. This collection contains a 65-page typescript of his diary, July 28, 1863 to July 17, 1864. in which he noted the skirmishes, battles, marches, and daily routines of his regiment in Tennessee and Mississippi. He also recorded, in the first and last pages of his diary, the words for "Music Store Window" and "Do they think of me at home."
