Scope and Contents:
This collection contains timetables, brochures, and other publications documenting train service in the United States, particularly through the Midwest during the 1980s and early 1990s. The bulk of the collection consists of national and regional Amtrak Train Timetables dating from 1982 to 1991. Also included are issues of Amtrak's America, a magazine produced by Amtrak, brochures about Amtrak in Chicago, and a reprinted Illinois Central program from 1924 for the University of Illinois Homecoming. These materials are supplemented by the schedules for two regional airlines that serviced various cities in Illinois during the 1980s.
The collection was donated to the Library by University of Illinois history professor Robert M. Sutton, who directed the Illinois Historical Survey from 1965 to 1984.
