Scope and Contents:
This 160-page manuscript cook book, for which there is no title page, contains recipes which are arranged by category. Each category is introduced with a watercolor illustration, and there is an index for the recipes of all 13 categories: soups; sauces; fish; poultry and game; meats; entrees; vegetables; pickles; catsup; beverages; bread, muffins, and yeast; pastry; puddings; custards and creams; and cakes. Those who contributed recipes are named in the index but the compiler and the illustrator of the volume are not named. Early in the 20th century, the Library numbered the volume MS172, accessioned it in 1933, and initially cataloged it 641.5 R243.
