Scope and Contents: This collection contains a typescript of Yetta Scheftel's paper, "The Settlement of the Military Tract in the State of Illinois: A Study of the Westward Movement." She prepared this eight-chapter manuscript under Clarence W. Alvord for use in The Centennial History of Illinois, and was compensated for the work by Otto L. Schmidt, chairman of the Illinois Centennial Commission.
