Scope and Contents:
The transcripts in this collection, which document the affairs of the Ohio Company, were made from journals, minutes, agreements, orders in council, petitions, and letters. These materials are largely concerned with the acquisition of land, especially in relation to agreements between traders and the Indians. Correspondents include Hugh Crawford, George Mercer, George Morgan, William Murray, William Trent, and Samuel Wharton.
There is a chronological card file for the collection. The originals are in the Ohio Company Papers of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. See also Lois Mulkearn, comp., George Mercer Papers Relating to the Ohio Company of Virginia (1954).
