Illinois Connection Program (1995-2004) | University of Illinois Archives

Name: Illinois Connection Program (1995-2004)
Variant Name: Illinois Connection

Historical Note: Illinois Connection is a University of Illinois public outreach and advocacy group which utilizes a network of UI alumni, business and community leaders, and other private individuals to promote the interests of the university and raise awareness of its programs and contributions.  Group members travel to meet with community organizations, speak on behalf of University initiatives, and work with elected officials on issues of particular concern to the University.  The program has roots in various informal advocacy efforts going back to the early years of the University, but grew specifically out of a 1993 Alumni Association initiative for an ongoing alumni legislative advocacy program.  In 1996 this program became Illinois Connection, and was affiliated administratively with the Office of the President.  In 2007 it was relocated back to the UI Alumni Association.
