Abbott Aeronautics Inspection Trip Diary covers his travels with Inspection General of the R.A.F., Air Chief Marshall Sir Edgar Ludlow Hewitt, the the United States from May to June, 1945. They were researching U.S. institutions of aeronotics to help them establish a college of aeronautics in England. Among the stops were McGill University, the Pentagon, Wright Field, Cincinnati University, Stanford, Cal. Tech., UCLA, Roswell (N.M.) Airfield, University of Illinois, Purdue University, MIT, NY University, Institute of Aeronautical Sciences, Webb School of Naval Architecture, and the University of Maryland. Written for his daughters, the diary contains many observations about social life and customs in post-war United States.
