Brief Description: Records of the Hart Mirror Plate Glass Company (HMPC), manufacturer of mirrors and display glass, founded in 1899 by Joseph S. Hart in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and presided over (1916-45) by his wife, Rose Hart, and their daughter, Josephine Hart Kaufman, and her husband, Stanley L. Kaufman of Champaign, Illinois, contains minute books of stockholder and director's board meetings; financial records, including audits, financial statements, and balance sheets; sales reports and ledgers; production records; product catalog; plans for factory expansion (1945); discontinuation of mirror manufacturing at the Grand Rapids plant and the start of a joint silvering operation with the Hagemann Company of Shelbyville, Indiana (1954); sale of the Grand Rapids facility to the Owen-Ames-Kimball company (1955); creation of a new firm, the Josephine Hart Kaufman Company, for the purpose of liquidation and disbursement of HMPC's assets (1959-60); and correspondence between the firm's representatives and suppliers, clients, trade associations, accountants, employees, advertisers, and contractors.
