Scope and Contents of the Materials

Papers of David William Cooper (1894-1975) (B.S. Electrical Engineering, 1916) include class reunion ephemera (35th, 1951; 50th, 1966), commencement programs (one retains the original name card), newspaper clippings, scrapbook pages, and a textbook, possibly used by Cooper at the University of Illinois, titled School Civics with Civics of Illinois.

Items in the scrapbook pages include: an electrical show souvenir ticket, athletics programs and schedules (swimming, football), photographs (depicting campus scenes, class games, construction of the Armory, friends, the 1914 Indianapolis 500), small brass artifacts, theater advertisements (Illinois Theater, Columbia Theatre), and ticket stubs.

Fifty Year Illini pin is Artifact #738 in the University of Illinois Artifact Collection, RS 35/3/120.

Biographical Note

David William Cooper (1894-1975) attended the University of Illinois from around 1912 to 1916, where he studied Electrical Engineering and was a member of the Electrical Engineers' Society. 

He graduated in 1916, with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and, as of 1966, lived in Astoria, IL, where he was buried after his death in 1975.
