Scope and Contents of the Materials

Papers of Adrian Lindsey (1897-1981), (College of Agriculture, Farm Management, 1922).  Materials include ephemera, a copy of Illinois Sing Songs (1920), photographs of Lindsey and other individuals/scenes (c. 1916, c. 1920s), programs from music performances (Prom Concert, 1915; United States Marine Band, 1915; St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, 1915; Philharmonic Society of New York, 1916; Pop Concert, UI Military Band, 1917; ‘Concert Militaire,’ First Regiment Band, 1922; Twenty-Sixth Anniversary Concerts), the Post Exam Jubilee, and theatre performances.  Also contains colorized postcard photo of University of Illinois Bands in Lincoln Hall Theater.

Includes brief biographical information about Adrian Lindsey and mailings from the donor of the material, his granddaughter Adrianne Balcom.

Biographical Note

Adrian H. Lindsey (1897-1981) graduated from the University of Illinois in 1922 with a degree in Farm Management.  During his time at the University, he played the cornet in some of the military bands.  He continued his education after graduation, receiving a master's degree from Iowa State College in 1923 and a doctorate from Iowa State University in 1929.  He became a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and died in 1981.
