Scope and Contents of the Materials

Papers of Ricardo B. Uribe (1935-2019), lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (1974-2004) and founder of ECE's Advanced Digital Projects Laboratory, including publications, manuscripts, periodicals, laboratory reports, newsletters, course materials and conference materials related to cybernetic research; autopoiesis; heuristics; interdisciplinary connections in philosophy, life sciences, mathematics, communication, and computer science; research conducted in the Biological Computer Laboratory (1958-1975); research reprinted by the Biological Computer Laboratory (1957-1975); and the American Society for Cybernetics (1970-1995). The series also includes audio recordings of Heinz von Foerster's "Stanford Lectures" a VHS tape of discussions and demonstrations of science technology (High Tech Heroes, 1990), and W. Ross Ashby's elementary NTM (Non-Trivial Machine)--an aluminum box with two switches and two lights that, through the observer's inability to determine its inner workings, demonstrates the complexity of intelligence.
