Description: Papers of Max Beberman (1925-71), professor of education (1953-71) and director of the Curriculum Laboratory (1965-71), including newspaper clippings, magazine articles, photographs, publications and correspondence relating to mathematic education, the "New Math," teaching, student independent studies, educational methodology, the development of instructional materials, experimental classroom trials, curriculum development, high school mathematics, "guided discovery" and comments and criticisms on mathematics education. Supported by the Carnegie Corporation, National Science Foundation and U.S. Office of Education, the University of Illinois Committee on School Mathmatics produced texts, teachers manuals and teacher training film series and sponsored summer institutes. Beberman's correspondence is in the files of the Curriculum Laboratory (1950-72) and the Committee on School Mathematics.
