Description: Papers of David C. Baum, Professor of Law (1963-73) include teaching materials for courses in corporate law, local government and urban problems; agenda, minutes and reports of Urbana-Champaign Senate and Senate Council; minutes and memoranda concerning College of Law and University committee activities (Law Library, appointments, clerkship, law and poverty, discipline, policy and development, lectures, academic freedom, and elections and credentials committees); and correspondence and reports relating to membership in professional organizations; AAUP, Chicago Bar Association (Committee on Federal Taxation) and Illinois State Bar Association (Corporate and Securities Law section, chair 1966-67). The series also includes court papers, briefs, correspondence, drafts, notes and research material for four legal cases in which Baum participated (academic freedom and school desegregation suits, suit by bank to recover damages, and petition for rehearing of murder trial); drafts and reprints of Baum publications concerning local government, home rule and the Illinois Supreme Court; reconstitution of the UIUC Senate (1970); and documents and correspondence relating to Baum's role as Staff Counsel of 1970 Illinois Constitutional Convention Legislative Committee.
