Papers of Clarence E. Smalley (1887-1968) (U.S. Army School of Military Aeronautics at the University of Illinois) include biographical information, correspondence, and a photograph album page.

Photographs date from around June of 1918, when Clarence Smalley was a student at the School of Military Aeronautics, hosted by the University of Illinois as part of its contribution to World War I. Subjects are airplanes, gas-mask training, and himself and his fellow students.

Correspondence is letters from his father, Isaiah L. Smalley, discussing World War I and news from his hometown. Biographical information comes courtesy of the donor of this material, Vicky Selberg Rossander, Smalley’s great-niece.
