Born digital records from the Patricia G. Schuman Papers contain correspondence (faxes, memos, and e-mails), speeches, articles and drafts, American Library Association (ALA) statements, committee planning notes, committee agendas and minutes, rosters and budgets, concerning Patricia Schuman's time as ALA President (1991-92). Papers relate primarily to campaigns and actions for Library Advocacy against politics, policies and legislative decisions affecting libraries and library and information sciences professionals in a negative manner. Topics include ALA's funding and financial decisions; campaigns "American's can't wait. Library Advocacy Now!", "Public awareness campaign" and "Right to Know campaign"; partners joining the campaigns; critiques on the questioning of libraries' and librarians' relevance, and on the undervaluation of this profession; new positions created; ALA policy manual; the statement on Core Values; Library Bill of Rights; business of book publishing; legislative advocacy training sessions and workshops; communications plans; and listings of key actions needed to support and enable libraries' appropriate functioning. Materials also include a digitized CD of National Library Week posters and bookmarks (2004).
