Brief Description: Scrapbooks of Nathaniel L. Goodrich, contains four scrapbooks from the early twentieth century on the subject of library buildings, includes advertisements for library equipment such as book stacks, bookcases, and other shelving, blueprints, drawings of library floor plans, handwritten notes, images of the interiors and/or exteriors of various library buildings, arranged alphabetically by country, state, and then city, a syllabus of lectures and books from a "Library Buildings" class, taught by W. R. Eastman at New York State Library School, and pamphlets about the construction and architecture of library buildings.

Biographical Note for Nathaniel L. Goodrich (1880-1957) : Nathaniel Lewis Goodrich was born on February 9,1880, in Concord, New Hampshire. He graduated from Amherst College in 1901 with a B.A., and earned a Bachelor's of Library Science from the New York State Library School in 1904. In 1908 Goodrich married Alice Lyman. He served as Librarian at West Virginia University from 1907-09, and at the University of Texas from 1910-12. In 1912, he was appointed Librarian at Dartmouth College, a position he would hold for 38 years. Goodrich served as a captain of military intelligence in Washington, D.C. in 1918, and then returned to Dartmouth, where he received an honorary M.A. in 1920. Goodrich was elected Vice President of the New Hampshire Library Association in 1924, and supervised the Dartmouth library's move from Wilson Hall to the new Baker Library in 1928. In 1941 Amherst College made Goodrich an honorary Doctor of Letters, and in 1943 he was given a full professorship at Dartmouth. A skilled skier, mountaineer, and outdoorsman, Goodrich wrote numerous articles for various publications chronicling his travels, and served as the editor of the American Ski Annual. Goodrich retired in 1950, becoming librarian emeritus, and died on April 30,1957.
