Scope and Contents of the Materials

The papers of Arlene E. Luchsinger relating to the ACRL's Greater New York Metropolitan Chapter's China Library Conference Trip (July 1-24, 1983), including itinerary and trip information, diary with details of the trip and Chinese library visits, typewritten notes from the diary, personal correspondence, postcards, slides of tourist activities and Chinese libraries, a scrapbook of mementos, and souvenirs. Also contains a CV and biographical information on Luchsinger.

Several items and descriptions use older romanization styles for Chinese cities and places to reflect and match the original slides and descriptions written by Arlene Luchsinger in the 1980s.

Biographical Note

Arlene Edith Luchsinger was born on May 7, 1937, in Elkhart, Kansas. Luchsinger received a B.A. in botany at the University of Kansas (1958), a M.S. in botany at Kansas State University (1963), and a masters of arts in library science from the University of Michigan (1965). She taught science in Ohio before working in libraries at the University of the South, Georgia State University, and the University of Georgia, where she became Assistant Director for Branch Libraries, and Head, Science Library. Luchsinger was a member of the American Library Association and its divisions the Association of College and Research Libraries and the Library Administration Management Association, and was a part of the Georgia Library Association. She relocated to Terre Haute, Indiana, where she lived until her death on January 23, 2019.
